This weekend, our director, Louise Tu’u, participated in a fantastic directing actors for screen workshop, run by veteran director and actor, Danny Mulheron in Samoa House on Karangahape Road.

She also rode from her fale in Ōtāhuhu to the train station, where she caught a train to Grafton on the Saturday, experiencing random showers and occasional downpours and then riding for the first time on the Karangahape Road cycleways. Today, she repeated the ride and train journey but instead got off and rode from Newmarket train station to Karangahape Road, enjoying cold but sunny weather. These bike rides provided a welcome break from driving and chances to catch up on sleep and observing ordinary people, essentials for any director. She did both return trips back home with her bike.
Danny’s refreshing humanity and candidness enabled Louise and the other eleven directors space, time and opportunities to make and have fun, mess up and laugh, learning and leaning on each other.
Thank you to The Actors Program for organising the workshop and their wonderful six actors, who brought the final scenes to life.
