Random Bike Rides: Ōtāhuhu Railway Bowling Club

Our director, Louise Tu’u, has been under the weather this past week, so this arvo, went for a short ride around her neighbourhood in Ōtāhuhu.

She followed her nose and saw the unusually open gates of the Ōtāhuhu Railway Bowling Club at 44 Awa Street. Louise met and chatted with Ron, who was a past president and helped set up the club 40 years ago. The club according to Ron, is the biggest Polynesian bowling club in New Zealand, having a large number of active Cook Island members. They have recently renovated the lawns in anticipation of summer and more playing.

Thank you Ron, Ned and Willie for the chat, chips and history of this enigmatic space. They are always looking for new members and keen to train up new players, so call the club on (09) 276 4602.
