We hosted our inaugural cycling event for womxn of colour last Saturday and had a BLAST!
Thank you to our fantastic speakers, Angie Lin, Tiffany Robinson, Selina Burke and our director and organiser, Louise Tu’u, who said yes and shared their different and similar insights and experiences into cycling with participants; our wonderful MC, Lusia Petelo, who kept the bell ringing and our chests, aching with laughter; our partners, Te Ara Haepapa – The Journey from Auckland Transport, led by Rahera Elisaia-Hopa and Rahui Mosby, who supported with kai, awesome volunteers Delia Matthias, Gina ma La, data collection and management of participants and photography from the awesome Kat (to come from Auckland Transport); our supporters, Teva Chonon from Bike Auckland and Vivienne Frances Long from Cycle Babes and Women in Urbanism; our venue, Otahuhu Recreational Sports Society, for being so chill and perfect and finally, to our womxn who came, engaged and broke bread with us, sharing why they rode or didn’t, how we could collectively make our rides regular and fun and asking when the next meeting and ride is.

Here is a photo of the lovely Maya, who won our free bike and helmet, donated by Louise Tu’u, and lock, lights and cool merch from Te Ara Haepapa.

We are having a break to refresh and reset and will list our next meet-up here.
