Random Bike Rides: Ōtāhuhu to Ōtara Creek

This morning, our director, Louise Tu’u, rode to drop off papers to a friend, who lives in Otara.

A special thanks to Teva Chonon for kindly gifting and changing the handlebars as well as lowering the seat post this week. This ride was a chance to test out the new improvements!

Louise googled her way, as her friend lives just over the green belt near the Otara Creek.

Louise discovered off Franklynne Road, the incredible walking and cycle paths down by the creek that are serene and well-maintained. It turns out there are three choices and Louise went down Raleigh Place, aptly named for bikes, came to a fork and turned right.

She rode alongside the creek, encountering nervous pukeko and contractors on their oversized lawnmowers. Then she rode over a magnificent bridge, which she took no pictures of because she thought she would come back that way (She didn’t). There were a number of unmarked paths, so she picked on and ended on Hills Road.

The rain started up as Louise rode down and up Hills Road, making it to her friend’s fale and using Johnston’s Road footbridge to cross the creek again and up through the green belt.

From here, she ended up again on Franklynne Road, rode on Alexander Crescent and back on Bairds Road to get back home via Highbrook.
