Today’s cycling adventure by our director, Louise Tu’u, happened as she needed to pick up her laptop from Harris Road in East Tāmaki.

Riding from Ōtāhuhu, she rode down Avenue Road, turning right onto Water St, then left onto Trenwith Street, which is the only street in Otahuhu, aside from Station Road, to have a signposted shared cycle and walking path. Louise then turned right onto Frank Grey Place, heading right into Curlew Bay Road into McManus Place, before heading onto the underrated cycle and walking path alongside SH1.

There were new construction works so if anyone knows what’s happening, please share the love.
Continuing to Highbrook Drive, Louise saw the weekday traffic, which is much more intense than her riding pace so welcomed the trails along the foreshore of Highbrook Park.

The paths are winding, with a pick a path quality and most lead to nowhere. Louise actually couldn’t find a clear path back onto the main road so went through a company’s parking lot and found this sort of path. The walkway/cycling path is on the right hand side and leads back on to Highbrook Drive.

Cycling on the footpath, turning left into Cryers Road then left to Harris Road, Louise encountered a lot of car traffic, with no real consideration for pedestrians let alone cyclists. She then returned back the same way with her computer and encountered heavy traffic on Highbrook Drive.

Perhaps the weirdest thing she saw was this, 2 years after the campaign.
