This morning, we were blessed to attend the opening of mother and daughter artists, Sulieti Fieme’a Burrows and Tui Emma Gillies’ new show, Falevai Flava at Mangere Arts Centre.
Part of the 2018 Auckland Arts Festival, the revival of making ngatu (large scale tapa) from the pair’s trip in 2014 to Burrows village, Falevai on the island of Vava’u in Tonga, are on display.
Many visitors this morning had a personal connection to the pair and village, gasping in delight to the beautiful ngatu, photos and video on display.
