Last night, we were privy to witness and partake in the stunning Auckland premiere of two works: Strong Hands by Michael Rewiri-Thorsen and Albert Belz’s Te Awarua in the Concert Chamber of the Auckland Town Hall.
Of special note was the aural landscape of Te Awarua with the clanging of workshop tools and engines immediately placing us in the world as well as the ubiquitous cellphones so big ups to Rory Maguire. For Te Awarua, the mental gymnastics required to follow French, Maori and English was really exciting, especially for us lovers of language. The performances for both plays were riveting and demanded our constant attention.
It’s a treasured thing to see one stimulating theatre work but to see two in one night, well, you just need to believe us when we say we slept well after doing our exercise at the theatre. Book now as they have the shortest season in the world: tonight and tomorrow night at 7.30pm.
