We are quite simply blown away by the amazing generosity, alofa and organisation of the crew behind this year’s Contemporary Pacific Arts Symposium at the Footscray Community Arts Centre in Melbourne, which opened today.
Starting with a hiss and a roar was the first keynote speaker, Keren Ruki, originally from New Zealand, who has lived and been a pioneer in indigneous curating in Australia for over twenty years. She is currently Creative Producer – Pacific Collections at the Australian Museum.
Our director, Louise Tu’u, took part in the symposium’s first panel, “Curating the Pacific: Museum & Gallery Collections & Contexts, chaired by fellow Kiwi Ema Tavola with other Niu Sila panellists Leafa Wilson, Rosanna Raymond and Margaret Aull.
We’ve met and hung out with so many awesome peeps and witnessed internationally renowned and bloody amazing Pacific circus live. (Yep, you did read right)
