Tonight in the Basement Studio, we enjoyed one of the most confronting Pacific meditations about racism as a Pacific Islander we’ve seen in a long time, “Brown: It’s Complicated”, wonderfully written and directed by Antonia Stehlin.
Exquisitely performed by two hilarious leads, Selu Ilohefaiva and Sam Kamu and a moving chorus of six beautiful voices, “Brown: It’s Complicated” cleverly explored and shared how subtle and quotidian racism in all its nefariously subtle shades can be experienced by Pacific Islanders in the workplace, school and in the dating world.
We look forward to enjoying more of Stehlin’s work to come.
If you were there, you’d know what this was for!
