This weekend has been one of fantastic hospitality. Our good friend, Vaoileti, invited us to her church’s annual conference lunch in Grey Lynn this afternoon. Today was the final day of celebration and communion for the enormous Auckland branch of the Siasi fakatahataha o Tonga or United Church of Tonga since last Tuesday.
In the last week of August for the past 30 years, the church has gathered its’ seven Auckland branches at the Falefakamanatu o Queen Salote church on Richmond Road in Grey Lynn. Two Australian branches were also present from Sailo (Sydney) and Petele (Brisbane).
Over 400 people were there today. We had a ball and picked up another Tongan phrase, “Koe ha?” = “O lea?” = “What is it?” Always useful when asking about food.
Malo aupito to our tablemates from the Glen Eden, Mt Roskill, Glen Innes, Henderson, Kalele (Otahuhu who are now in Mangere) and Mangere branches.
Finally, a big heartfelt thanks and hug to Vaoileti who made us feel welcome and explained what was happening for us. Check out our photos and videos here from this vibrant event.
