We were lucky enough to be invited to the 2014 Arts Pasifika Awards by Creative New Zealand, which happened last night at the St James Theatre in Wellington. Hosted by the charming, perspicacious and beautiful Fuimaono Karl Pulotu-Endemann and Marama Papau, the evening was stellar in organisation, ambience and flair. Malo le taumafai ia: Steve ma Ching – Senior Artist Award, Dagmar Dyck – Contemporary Artist Award, Grace Taylor – Emerging Artist Award, Ela To’omaga-Kaikilekofe – Special Recognition Award and the two recipients of the Heritage Arts Awards, the Sinakiteu Women Development Group and Ioane Aleke Fa’avae. A big ups and massive thank you to the organisation of the awards, led by Creative New Zealand Senior Arts Adviser for Pacific Arts, Makerita Urale, who is an experienced playwright and producer. The end result was an evening of celebration which ran smoothly, with concise and humbling speeches. We were also joined by a previous award winner from 2013, world-famous choreographer Parris Goebel. Check out more photos and videos from the awards in our “Flickr Photos” section of our website.
